Think green, the go green brigade
The residents of PBEL City have been segregating garbage since 2016.
On a daily basis, the kitchen waste from our towers (Platinum to Aquamarine) diverted to our composting facility. On an average, the green waste from the TEN towers weighs close to 550 kg per day.
The organic waste is mixed with a mixture of our previous cycle’s compost, dry leaves and coco-peat, shredded, and then spread inside the composting units. It is left untouched until the time is up to harvest the compost. The journey of composting on a large scale is only a few months old. They are evolving with processes and failures and unlearning few lessons. The compost has been tested for significant parameters. In its raw form, with no additives and no waste decomposer solution, our average compost is a feather to our caps. This is our Black – Gold!. The compost is a result of all their efforts.
Members of the Waste Management team invited the Swachagraha team to PBEL City to conduct a workshop on Home Composting and Kitchen Gardening in November 2018. This was their second visit and they patiently answered all queries from the interactive residents on composting food waste at home and learning the magic of making ‘black gold’. Not just making compost but using this earthy, fragrant nutrient rich mixture to grow vegetables at home
The volunteers of PBEL City Waste Management team got together and staged a flash mob with kids at the Monsoon bazaar in the Club House in August 2018. The theme was “No to single-use plastic”. All performers wore monkey masks and danced through the stages of evolution. One monkey apes another, learning the subtle nuances of environmental consciousness. As time goes by, in the name of civilzation and refinement, the consumerist attitude becomes a habit. Before long, they are back to square one. This was a clean-up drive enacted to sensitize the community on conscious consumption and mindful generation of waste. During the entire performance, volunteers held placards of paintings done by kids earlier that month on refusing plastic and going eco-friendly.
These and several other events are conducted by the team to raise awareness about the mission… Go Green!
